So here's a first lines post, but without being the first line all of the time...

Sunschild

Everett felt the SunLord come up the mountain, and grinned.

She wasn't touching the volcanic power beneath her, but she felt it. She and the fire of Rainier had connected.

Dragon Clan Boot Camp

“Tegan, I need you,” Janie said, poking her hard-tanned face into the lounge. “Tim's just gone screaming into the hills.”

Something told me she meant this more literally than usual. Plus, Tim wasn't the flaking-off-into-the-sunset type. I picked my lumberjack boots off the coffee table one at a time and sat up like an old man, pausing before standing.

The Sphinx Issue

Delta wasn't even angry when she smashed the stranger's foot. That didn't make her feel much better, but at least her apologies rang true, which was worth something.
{actually sequel to Death of an Emo Band...}

Henna Charm

It was a festival day at the campus—the boulevards and lanes throughout the neighborhood were booth-walled and rivered with people. The smell of strong spice and that small touch of fresh sweat drew Hadassah through the crowd despite it.

Haley and Methuselah

Jared and Methuselah met on Jacob's Ladder, and neither could think of anything to say.

“You're sent down?” Cheung asked for everyone.

Manifestly,” Methuselah said, and passed them by.

Aninz Plots

I look at the child and cluck at the sight, in my head. She looks a sweet thing, pale, not fully developed but probably never going to be a lush woman. And this is the chieftan's daughter who will have to seduce Lukas. Her eyes are big, looking up at the stone walls that reach ten men high.

Javelin Moon

Kaemen was patient. The sky blushed red just behind the thin line of alders but deep blue evening was just above it, settling down with the cold. He could wait, cold. At this age, his anger burned like seeping frost—a long time coming, but hard to turn back.

Outright Skip-Beat fic

Kotonami had her eyebrows raised as Kyoko finished the print-out.

Usually I don't bother with those moronic celebrity sites,” she said. “But I have an alert set up about That Jerk. I take him as a very serious threat.”

Psuedo-Batman fic

The man who answered the door was under thirty (surprise), Asian but not Chinese (surprise again), and built a bit like a pit bull. After seeing him, the rocky bass voice was not really a surprise anymore.

Psuedo-Han Solo fic

Cy Pollack pulled into Tanna with the empty hush-pocket weighing on her mind.

Ironic, really. Since it wasn't weighing her bumper.

One of those Shojo Trope exercises on: Human Pets

Mareine had thought the pet-rental was a stupid idea. As a plan to get rid of a stalker, doubly so. But Fione had never listened to her before, though she always asked her opinion, and apparently wasn't going to start now.

She helped her agonize over the catalog and pick the human pet. Then she heard all about it later.

Completely Odd Take on Wand-Duelling from HarryPotter

SeBria was sitting on her duffel, looking about like every other cheap commuter in the station when o,Dickon came to pick her up. She swung up and grabbed her bag in a motion fluid enough for a wandswoman, but she was lanky and sat immodestly—he really didn't think he was going to like her kata. Didn't matter though; this was a favor to his sensei.

Bit of a Play-Thing with the Makeover/Kidnapping Tropes

Before being brought there, she had tried on clothes in a shop that didn't carry anything she liked. The styles that suited her to the expert's eye were going to fill the closets tomorrow, and she would wear them. She had on a new set of clothes now.

Nothing she'd had before came with her.

And the only NOVELS I'm working on actively:

Backlash Girls

“I have a bad feeling about this,” I said at the mirror. My Han impression wasn't stellar, since for one, I have a definite girl voice (I envy those altos) and for two, I was looking at myself in the mirror. Not the best context for sounding cocky, if nervous.

Letters to my Nemesis

First day of Higher School over. It wasn't so bad. Maybe it's being two years older than my classbros but the hallways didn't seem so crowded with menace. I did avoid the elevators, though.

No sense in entering a warzone before your time.
