Obsessive Book Lover's Month of Books - Day Nine

Day 9

Make a mini-list of things you have pre-ordered (at the store OR library) or at least bought fresh off the presses. If N/A, why?

For things I bought...well, I preordered Conspiracy of Kings, and The King of Attolia and Queen of Attolia are pretty much the ONLY books I have bought new besides having gift-money in my pocket, in a bookstore, and deciding for once to not burn it on chocolate or socks.

So that tells you how I feel about Megan Whalen Turner's work, and the Queen's Thief series. They also have covers that are their own small passion of mine:

The paintings are so beautiful, so masterful, and by an artist who knew enough of the details for it to be a treat to look at.
:lovelorn:
Ahem.    (They are out of order, except for the little order that my favorite two of the bunch are on top...)

Now, preordering at the LIBRARY, that's a much more common theme.

Well, that last isn't a book, of course, but it got me all kinds of fired up to write, so in a way it's more useful...
Apparently Maybe This Time (Crusie's retake on Turn of the Screw) is coming to me as we speak!
Yay!
Can't say the same for the Karate Kid DvD my sister has on hold on my mom's card...

The last thing that I preordered was A Conspiracy of Kings... Usually, I don't buy books unless I've read them already, from the library, and I know that I like them. (Odd, I know :) The book I last ordered before that was - two years ago, maybe? It was The Dragon Heir, by Chinda Williams Chima, because my library hadn't ordered it by the release date.

I put everything on hold at the library; the hold system is one of their best services.

Recently:
The new Artemis Fowl :(
Mockingjay >:(
The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter - haven't received it yet
Dark Road to Darjeeling - haven't received it yet, but the cover is not my taste
Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones :)
And... I can't remember any others. But I do have a TBR list on Goodreads that's really long, though they're books I can't put on hold because they're not in the library system yet.

... Wow, the later it gets, the longer my comments are :)

How is that odd? I do the exact same thing! I usually only buy them when I come across them used, but almost *all* the books I own were read first from the library, with a spare few my mother bought for me.

I didn't know about Enchanted Glass (XDDDDDDD MY FAVE) to preorder it, but I did preorder Pinhoe Egg...in fact, I think I singlehandedly contributed enough searches for it to cause them to order it.

I have a bunch of friends (not non-readers, even) who will say, "But you read it already! Why do you need to buy it?" or "Can't you just take it out of the library again?" MISSING THE POINT, I SAY.

Oooh, I liked Pinhoe Egg.

Wooooow, those Turner books are GORGEOUS and I want to read them based on the covers alone!

They are as good as their covers would have you believe! I think you might really like them. If you don't get to the library might, I might even be able to summon the will to lend you my copies.

November seems like a long time away, though--perhaps I shall concoct some scheme for going into Tulsa, if you want to try the series.

They are clever and twisty and funny and not at all easy on the heroes.
