I am in a crisis.
So I'm concocting this Secret Society of Glamorous Librarians thing, right?
Well.
Today my mom asked me if it was going to be "a steampunk".
...aaaaaaaaaah.
It may just be.
But--but--but I had a collage picked out already!

The thing is...steampunk doesn't necessarily have to feature heavily in smokestacks and leather.
In fact, in this case, the characters wouldn't be close to that sort of thing, anyway.
The collage may be worth it for pure artistic reasons.
But I am having a crisis while my mind decides how to process this line of inspiration, and where to go.
Note: I would not be angsting this way if I had instantly known it was wrong--which I usually do. So I'm not being swayed by someone else's opinion, so much as conflicted about my own two ideas.

Smokestacks no.
Leather yes.

In general, I think all the images still apply--these are high-class girls, with penthouse lives. I'm just not quite sure how the book is going to look now. It needed to be shaken up a bit: I was not challenging myself.
I think it's gradually settling into something I can deal with, though.
I guess the unstated question is "Am I crazy?"
Only I can know if this is a crazy thing to do, and I don't really need to be told that I'm generally nuts...
Well adjusted people don't wrack their brains over the nuances possible to draw from steampunk and insert in a high-society-espionage-and-politics novel. Probably. How would I know?
