...It feels kind of odd to post without any eye-candy. I must be strong!

Okay. So I caved. At least there's no cartoon bishies...
What I am Writing
--an occasional series

I'm waffling. No doubt about it. It's strange to not have a writing project eating my brain, because it was always *something*.
I don't know if I've broken myself somehow, or if it's the whacko schedule, but that has not been happening lately.

It's kind of scary.

But I did spurts on some short stories, and now am discovering energy to pick at some nigh-trunked manuscripts.

The Mortal Queen is my paranormal romance. I'm not longer sure what I did to it/myself/the space-time continuum, but I think I can work with it again.

When a good friend hits you up for a favor, you're going to hear them out, even if it sounds sketchy. And in this case, I owed her one: she'd bailed me out when my car gave up the ghost someplace near Bushy Head, outer Oklahoma wasteland, even though she had plans in town.

Walk Eager is my quintessential epic that-wants-to-be-unepic. I kept on tripping up on the fact that the humor was too low-level. I wanted voice. I didn't have it. I may have just found the jumper cables/defibrillator/lightning rod to give the hero his tongue-in-cheek lovableness. We'll see.

This is the story of Tohrya, of the far-coast Funayin—that is me.

I thought my story was simple enough, but this is now doubtful. Gossip has come round to me. Some of the tales are very interesting. They can keep on being interesting: I don't mind.

My own people, at least, should know the truth, though. So, I will start from the beginning. Don't groan at me, that's the only way I can tell a story.

Just in time to distract me from editing the Carnie sequels, I've found my way back into the maze that is:
Aolon (a.k.a. In Dire Need of A Title Project #1)

I'm pretty sure it has to start with Vol. 2, which is a short, sweet, and unobfusticated tale. In other words, I did away with the "epic" grammar (do you remember me saying something about sawing through oak with a butter knife? THAT is Vol. 1) to move up the period feel.

I don't think it will be right to do away with the first volume entirely (though it's a tempting thought) but I'm going to be patient about how to fit it back in. I think chopping it into itty-bitty pieces may be the only option...

A shadow blotted out the work under Farthaen hand. He didn't recognize the figure, but the platter in her hand was familiar. She had to be another one of Mother Shiael's strays, bringing him a meal. When she didn't move, continuing to block the afternoon light, he grew impatient and stood.

"Hiiiir," she said. It was a sort of hiss, as if confronting a devil itself.

I just started watching the Batman Beyond cartoon series.

I love this thing!

Part of it may be that it combines the dark theatre and tech-reliance of Batman (which is a vein I've wanted to get into, but was deterred by the original comics' dialogue) with the teenage head-long enjoyment of Spidey. (I would say there's a purposeful mimickry there, with the "Nash" teen nemesis of the new Batman's gentle alter-ego, etc. But that's because that interplay of dual world tensions works.)

Also world building. I am have a very desperate weakness for quirky world-building, and the future of Gotham, with it's Joker copy-cat gangs, sciffy-tech to make suspension of disbelief so much more easy, and vast metropolis feel is just awesome.

I am really excited to watch more of it.

I don't know if I've mentioned this on here or not, but I am pounding away at revision.
I've got some basic retooling done on the middle-opening sequences of World Domination 101, and am going to try and finish that pass before work at the end of this week. I worked so hard yesterday I had to slack off a bit. (5 episodes of Batman! *hearts*)

The good news: I'm breaking even, words-wise.
The bad news: I have a lot more to do....

Got a few pages of Mortal Queen written yesterday, too, which was a crowning glory. Today, so far, I've cooked. ^.^

I feel like a real performer now: we played at a coffee shop and had strangers applaud our music. Some of it originals.

While I've performed a lot, it hasn't really been in a place where I was putting upon the public for notice, and it was kinda cool to do this. Of course, we had our groupies, too, most under the age of 16. It's great to be friends with homeschool families, they always triple the crowd, at their smallest. ^_^

I'm prouder about the fact that I forced myself to start again on Mortal Queen and was able to get back into the swing. I'm always afraid that once I've left something for a while it will never be right.

I've petitioned and taken a no-answer as a yes for writing more LotR fan-lyrics for the DunaDan to set to music. Right now I'm working on "Last Homely House" , a tribute to Elrond (see the post title...). If you've never taken a moment to check out our rock-infused fantasy ballads (LOL, as the netchicks and webdudes say), why not flick through our list at Our Soundclick? I'd really appreciate feedback, because we want to grow and do more, better. Hey, you may even have fun getting in a laugh at us, and I'll NEVER KNOW.

I'm fairly impressed with myself. I am running a house of 7, plus menagerie and...
Writing a LOT.

Mortal Queen is terrible fun, and it's practically writing itself--usually I don't sympathise with that term, and I still feel the work of coming up with the scenes, but I'm having them come to me before I sit down to the page. Today I racked up four pages, even having been out of the house for the afternoon, as well as cooking for a family.

I have to share this part with you:

In Better News

I'm writing Mortal Queen with unholy glee.

Also, thank you for humoring my UnGenius Angst. Pam has guided me towards the much less hot-button epithet Brilliant. I will now be accepting gifts of brilliance, and notices about good deals on e-Bay.

The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives. (Proverb)

Your reward is:
A Snippet from the Fairy Matchmaker Novel
which is fluff and like World Domination will be an utter mess when I'm through but fun enough I can stand to fix it anyhow:
